"Born to Be A Loser - The Jimmy Donley Story" - written by Johnnie Allan and Bernice Larson Webb. Ten years in the writing, this book details the entire tragic life of Gulfport, Mississippi singer/songwriter extraordinaire, Jimmy Donley.  His recordings included songs like "Born To Be A Loser", "Think It Over", "Please Mr. Sandman", along with Jimmy Donley compositions recorded by Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, Freddie Fender and Clarence "Frogman" Henry to name a few.  This life of musical accomplishments was lived out against a childhood background of poverty and domestic turmoil, drunkenness and sexual abuse, mixed with hymn-singing religion.  Jimmy himself, a manic-depressive personality, had a history of assaults and near-manslaughter, jail terms, repeated attempts at suicide, and mental hospitilization.  In his short life, he had time for six intense love affairs, five marriages, and four divorces.  But no woman could save him from himself, nor could the music world that needed him.  At his funeral a spray of white chrysanthemums from Fats Domino bore the poignant message "From a Friend to a Friend". $22.00 includes US & Canada S&H.  Softcover only.
